What Is It?
Lubrication is when a slippery fluid is naturally created in and around the vagina to protect the body when it is rubbed during sexual activity.
Lubrication may happen during sexual arousal, but lubrication does not mean that the person must have sex or even wants to have sex.
An Example
When Paula is aroused or sometimes when she is kissing her partner, she can feel wetness in her vagina and around her vulva. Her body is creating natural lubrication in case there is vaginal penetration. Paula knows that she does not have to have sex or to do sexual activities if her vagina starts to create natural lubrication.
What to Know
Every glossary word connects to different parts of the Sexuality Wheel. Explore the information below to learn more.
- Natural vaginal lubrication does not require a person to engage in sexual activity. Vaginal lubrication can happen even if a person does not necessarily want to engage in sexual activity.
- Consent is still important even if a person’s body starts to produce vaginal lubricant.
