What Is It?
Foreskin is skin that covers and protects the head of the penis. This skin rolls back when the penis becomes erect. When people with penises are born, all penises have a foreskin. Some people have their foreskin removed through a process called circumcision.
An Example
Owen has foreskin that covers their penis. Owen makes sure to clean around the foreskin with soap and water regularly to make sure there is no buildup of bacteria. This helps to prevent buildup of bacteria, sweat, and other bodily fluids.

- A person’s penis, including their foreskin, should not be touched by another person without consent.
- People with a foreskin may enjoy having the tip of their penis touched through their foreskin or beneath the foreskin.
- Some people may use lubricant to be more comfortable.
- The foreskin naturally moves back or a bit down the penis as a person grows up.
- For hygiene purposes, adolescents and adults can gently move the foreskin back during a shower or bath to clean the skin underneath with soap and warm water. This helps to prevent buildup of bacteria, sweat, and other bodily fluids.
