What Is It?
When a person is asked to go to a mental health professional (like a psychiatrist or psychologist) or a health care provider to explain what they understand about sex. The mental health provider or the health care provider decides if the person knows enough about sex to be safe.
An Example
Glinda lives in a group home. Her staff scheduled a conversation between her and a psychiatrist so Glinda can share the information she knows about sex and that she knows how to be safe. Glinda’s staff made sure that she and the other people living in the house received lots of sex-positive and inclusive sex education to prepare for the conversation.
