Lesbian is a sexual orientation. People who identify as lesbian are women who are attracted to other women.
Some women who are attracted to other women also use and identify with the word gay.
In LGBTQIA+, “L” stands for lesbian.

- We get to decide which word or words best describe our sexual orientation.
- Other people cannot determine and should not make assumptions about our sexual orientation. No one can determine the sexual orientation of another person. Only we can determine our sexual orientation for ourselves.
- Some people experience their sexual orientation as fluid throughout their lives. Some people have the same sexual orientation throughout their lives.
- A person who identifies as a lesbian can be a lesbian no matter what types of clothes that she wears. A person can wear jeans, a dress, or a skirt and no matter what they wear, they can still be a lesbian.
